When my mind is clouded with thoughts, I often choose a pen and paper to release or make sense of it all. Sometimes it’s a poetic freestyle. Sometimes it’s a cathartic rambling monologue. Sometimes it’s a surprising realization.
If you’re curious and writing resonates with you, try one of these…
- When the thoughts feel stuck or you don’t know where to begin, using a prompt can help get them flowing. You can start with a line that may help like:
- Right now I feel….
- What I really want to say is…
- I need to tell you…
– Honestly…
Let the pen flow.
- For another prompt idea, look for a word around you…in your last text message, on a sign in front of you, on the cereal box…. and use it as the first word to begin with…then dive in.
- If you know exactly what you want to say…just write your heart out.
- If you just want to write freely or creatively, let your curiosity lead you…
For inspiration open a book and start your first sentence with the first line you see or press play on a playlist, song, show and write the first line you hear.
freestyle it.
Note: You can also set an amount of time which can make it more focused ~ I prefer
5 to 10 minutes, but choose whatever amount you feel is right for you.
