I call London a second home. My father grew up there so we often visit family and friends. After becoming vegetarian and then fully vegan, I realized how many incredible options there are in London. They have integrated plentiful options into their grocery stores and restaurants long before it was a trend in North America. With a massive population in a small space, you can find something from every culture, and it’s all so delicious.
Here are some gems I enjoyed on my last trip to London in 2022.
TENDRIL ~ a (mostly) vegan restaurant tucked off of Oxford St.
Enjoy a a set menu or items a la carte.
Unlike the commercial vegan offerings in central London, each plant based dish reflects the vegan lifestyle with a thoughtful palate of flavour, freshness and innovation.
I opted for the discovery menu which I found was reasonably priced for a 5 course lunch! The Polenta and Roasted cauliflower were my favourites. If you have enough room after a few dishes….indulge in the the creamy Tiramisu…life is too precious to skip it.

FAT PUNDIT ~ Indo-Chinese
If you love spice you’ll love it here! A busy little spot in central London. They blend flavours true to their culture and cater to all. The Vegan menu had plenty of hearty options including their well known Momo’s (steamed mix vegetable dumpling). The yellow sesame sauce was the best condiment with a tangy taste. Our favourite dishes were the crispy okra and sticky sesame vegetables. Szechuan fried rice looks like a small portion but it’s quite generous and could serve several portions among three people. For dessert the sizzling brownie was a spectacle as chocolate sauce was poured over the brownie gently melting the icecream.

DISHOOM ~ King’s Cross location
First time in a long while having Indian food at a restaurant in London (since making it at home is always the best) and was pleasantly surprised by Dishoom.
With locations spanning across the UK, Dishoom transports you to their roots of Bombay, India weaving stories into the details of the food and decor. Everything is committed to a cultural taste and aesthetic rooted in authenticity.
They offer a full vegan menu with dishes that are packed with spices and flavour.
Chole (stewed chickpeas) was a generous serving, on the spicy side and very hearty. Puri’s (a deep fried puffed bread) were light and crispy and not oily which is rare. Okra fries were nicely seasoned and made thinly so it was a good light starter. Kachumber salad fresh and simple.

VEGAN HIGH TEA at HYDE, ROYAL LANCASTER HOTEL
Located in a pretty calming space behind the Royal Lancaster hotel’s main lobby, this is the quintessential British high tea.
We enjoyed savoury sandwiches filled with fresh ingredients and unique combinations. The Sweet course was definitely a treat and more decadent than any other vegan teas we’ve ever had! Scones were served warm with a thoughtful coconut whipped cream. We paired several different kinds of tea throughout each course from their wide selection. See the photo below of the vegan menu for a full list of the options (and on their website).
